European Regional Development Fund

If you are based in Cheshire and Warrington and want to access European funding, then CWEA is your advice point when applying for ERDF. CWEA's role is to provide leadership, advocacy and co-ordination of the Region’s ERDF applications and their development and delivery, working alongside the NWDA.

A total fund of £309 million of ERDF is available in the Northwest to 2013 and it is available for Cheshire and Warrington to develop projects which will be eligible for funding. This is split into 4 Key Priority Areas and then between 11 Action Areas. This Investment Framework details the type of eligible activity to be funded.

It should be noted that ERDF funding will contribute no more than 50% of the eligible cost. The remaining 50% of the funding, known as 'match funding', must come from other sources such as the NWDA, local authorities, other Government schemes, other public bodies, and/or the private sector.

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) was set up in 1975 to stimulate economic development in less prosperous regions of the European Union (EU). As EU membership has grown, ERDF has developed into a major stream to help redress regional imbalances.

In October 2006, the UK Government confirmed that the 9 Regional Development Agencies (RDA’s) should take responsibility for managing the ERDF programmes in England for the period 2007-2013.
